The Tramuntana – Majorca Walking Tour

Enjoy a delightful walking tour on the largest of the Balearic Islands, Majorca in Spain. 'La Luminosa', the enlightened, is the Spanish name for Majorca. The island has many hidden secrets for you to explore including the tranquil core of Majorca, the wild Sierra de Tramuntana with good walking paths over rocks and though sun drenched scattered oaks.

This tour has an eight day, seven night itinerary.

Day 1 - Individual journey to Pt. Alcudia

Day 2 - Coastal walk on the peninsula of Alcudia. One of the most beautiful paths stretching between the bay of Pollenca and Alcudia. You will follow the coast and climb a stunning rocky peak. On serpentine paths with stunning panorama views you cross soft hills back to Pt. Alcudia. Approx. 5 to 6 hours Distance approx 15 km (9 miles)  ↑500 m ↓620 m.

Day 3 - Pt. Alcudia - Monastery Lluc. Short transfer to Pollenca, where you join the historic pilgrim path to Lluc. The high summits of Serra de Tramuntana will be in full view and you can walk up on the pass, past Puig Tomir. Shade stone oak forests, flushing orchards and rough meadows compose a varied scenery. Connoisseurs walk through the botanical garden of the monastery. Approx. 4 to 5 hours Distance approx 13 km (8 miles)  ↑670 m ↓290 m.

Day 4 - Pilgrim path Cuber Reservoir. In the morning transfer to Cuber Reservoir where you join a further stage of the pilgrim paths to Lluc. You walk high up into the Serra and on passes down to Lluc. An interesting countryside with high grass, rocks and crossings that resemble high alpine territory lay ahead of you. The sunny vistas on the steep rock coast and fertile valleys certainly belong to the most marvellous sights Majorca has to offer. Return to monastery Lluc for another overnight. Approx. 5 to 6 hours Distance approx 15 km (9 miles)  ↑590m ↓860 m

Day 5 - Monastery Lluc to Pt. Soller.
Walk along Cuber Reservoir to pass des L'ofre. Follow the serpentines up to Es Cornador, with unsurpassed views to the world famous terraced walk down to Soller. Continue on the path down through the idyllic gorge and the gardens of Soller. Take the historic tramway to the coast to Pt. Soller. Approx. 5,5 hours Distance approx: 15 km (9 miles| ↑380 m ↓990 m.

Day 6 - Poastal path from Deia to Soller.
Transfer to the artist's village Deja, a gem of the west coast. The bay of Deja is the starting point for the stage along the rock coast and up to the idyllic postal way to Soller. Visit the historic oil mill, taste freshly squeezed orange juice and walk through olive groves. Overnight in Pt. Soller. Approx. 5 hours Distance approx: 15 km (9 miles) ↑340 m ↓470 m.

Day 7 - Pt. Soller - Playa de Palma. Take the nostalgic train through the valley of oranges ("Picking of oranges during the train ride is forbidden") down to Palma. Enjoy this ride along the mountains of Tramuntana and through the fertile plains of Palma. The beach promenade takes you to the lively Playa de Palma. Take a stroll through the historic old town of Palma with little alleys and the majestic cathedral. Approx. 3,5 hours Distance approx: 10 km (6 miles) | ↑0 m ↓0 m.

Day 8 - Individual journey home or extra days

  • Sure footedness and stamina are required for walking times up to 6 hours. You are rewarded by an unusual and  beautiful  perspective  of  Mallorca.  The  paths  can  be  rocky  therefore  sturdy  walking  boots  are necessary. 
  • Airport Palma de Mallorca. Take coach to Palma bus station and then approx. 1 hr. to Pt. Alcúdia (www.tib.org). Or by taxi, approx. EUR 80 per ride, about 1 hour to drive.
  • Return from Playa de Palma to the airport: short ride by taxi, cost approx. EUR 25 per fare.
