Sicily & Aeolian Islands - Italy Walking Holiday

This exciting self led walking tour of Sicily & the Aeolian Islands allows you to discover Etna, Sicily’s active volcano, the volcanic island of Stromboli and the dead crater of Vulcano.

During your week holidays you can explore volcanoes in all their facets, you will walk to the volcanoes or you could even rent a boat to cruise around the islands for great views of these fascinating formations.

The climb onto Etna is definitely an unforgettable highlight. Located high above the sea the town of Taormina will bewitch you with its narrow alleyways, traditional Greek amphitheatre and fantastic views onto the coast and Etna.

This tour has a eight day, seven night itinerary.

Day 1 - Individual journey to Milazzo 


Day 2 – Enjoy a Hydrofoil trip between Milazzo and the island of Lipari which takes around one hour. Take in the beautiful views of the island before you disembark. Houses nestled on high cliffs are overlooked by a massive fortress and cathedral. Take some time to explore this lively city before walking along the idyllic western side of the island with its steep cliffs and great views.

Day 3 - Excursion to Vulcano or Rest day. Enjoy the beautiful beach on Lipari or take the Hydrofoil to Vulcano. The climb up to the crater is strenuous, but you will be rewarded with a wonderful view of six further Aeolian Islands.


Day 4 - Cruise from Lipari to island of Stromboli which takes around one hour. Take your time to visit the beautiful village San Vincenzo, go by boat around the island or to explore the bewitching village Ginostra, one of the most beautiful parts of the whole archipelago. In the afternoon guided tour onto Stromboli volcano.

 
Day 5 - Circular walk on Stromboli. Relax on the beautiful black beaches and in the late afternoon we recommend doing a walking tour to “Sciara del Fuoco”. Stromboli will delight you with beautiful panoramic views. As an alternative you can take the Hydrofoil to the lively island of Panara where you can walk to the picturesque beach of Cala Junco.


Day 6 - Take the Hydrofoil from Stromboli to Milazzo, followed by a transfer to Taormina in northeast Sicily. Located on a cliff, high above the Ionian Sea the whole village overlooks the water with Etna as an impressive backdrop. It is well worth visiting the Amphitheatre.


Day 7 – Enjoy the day exploring Etna, which shows its real beauty during your walk. Pass through old lava flows, which underneath houses are buried. Your walk leads along extraordinary places and paths found only here. Spectacular views of the Ionian coast unfold as you climb.


Day 8 - Individual departure or extra days.
