Day 1: Individual journey to Maishofen 

Hotel: Hotel Schloss Kammer for the duration

Day 2: Loop tour lake Zell Via Maishofen ́s ridgeway
Walk along Maishofen´s ridgeway to the Mitterberghof mountain guesthouse where a comfortable, inviting sun terrace is waiting for you to relax. Enjoy the panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. Head downhill to Thumersbach past the Hubertus chapel and on along lake Zell to Prielau palace. Return to the palace Kammer Via Mayerhofen and the Steinberg mountain. 
 

Details: approx. 4 hours - 7.5 miles (12 km) ↑1870ft (570m) ↓1870ft (570m).

Day 3: Loop tour Lindling alp & Saal alp 
Take the bus from Maishofen to Sportregion Saalbach. The walking tour starts in Hinterglemm Mitterlengau and leads up to the end of the valley.  From the Forsthof alp a  circular route leads to Saal alp and continues to Lindling alp.  Cross the suspension bridge to the Baumwipfelweg and return to Maishofen by bus

 Day 4: Loop tour Schmittenhöhe
Journey by bus to Zell am See, today's goal is the Schmittenbahn mountain railway. Via an enclosure you reach the peak of Schmittenhöhe mountain at 6447ft (1965 m). Enjoy the unique view onto lake Zell as well as impressive panoramic views of numerous 3000m peaks. After visiting Elisabeth chapel walk down into the valley, past Sonnkogel mountain, Sonn alp and finally into Zell am See. Take your time for a stroll through town. Return journey by bus to Maishofen.

Day 5: Loop tour of Schwalbenwand mountain 
From Kammer palace head towards Schwalbenwand.   Various trails take you to the peak of Maishofen and a little later the peak of Schwalbenwand if you want. It is well worth the effort and you will be rewarded with a unique panoramic view onto the snow-covered peaks of Hohe Tauern and the Steinerne Meer.  Return via Kammeregg alp where you recharge your batteries with a glass of cider and a bacon sandwich.  
 

Details: approx. 5.5 hours - 8.5 miles (14 km) ↑4199ft (1280m) ↓4199ft (1280m).

Day 6: Loop tour Along the Tracks of Anton Faistauer
The last walking day is a comfortable tour along the tracks of Anton Faistenauer, one of Austria ́s most important modern artists. The walking tour was opened up in 2010 and leads via 10 points from the centre of Maishofen to Saalhof  palace and via Prielau with yet another palace over to Mayerhofen. Worth seeing are the frescoes in the Stablberg chapel, before you return along the river path of the Saalach to your hotel.  The hike takes you along the Saalachufer path via an exciting mountain trail to the Lake Waldsee and returns over meadows and fields.

Day 7: Individual departure or extra days

All times, distances and altitudes are approximate.

You walk on good walking paths and lovely trails with view to the impressive mountain world of the region, and in parts on side roads and forest tracks. The daily tours can be managed with good health. Only the climb up to mountain Schwalbenwand and the descent of mountain Schmittenhöhe require some stamina.

Clothing and Accessories - Bring good quality walking boots/shoes, waterproof clothing, a Day pack and Water 

  • Take the cable car to the Schmittenhöhe: Exit at an altitude of 1,965 metres to experience an impressive panoramic view of many three-thousand-metre peaks.
  • A week of leisurely walking in and around the idyllic country chateau  
  • Reach the summits: Both the Schwalbenwand and the Maishofner Hausberg are the jewel on the crown of the panoramic hike in Pinzgau. 1,280 metres above sea level and achieved in about five hours and open up the view of the Hohe Tauern and the Steinerne Meer.
  • In the footsteps of Anton Faistauer: Explore the home of the most famous Austrian painter. The hiking trail leads over ten stations from the centre of Maishofen to Mayberhofen.

Getting to the start of the tour

By Rail/Bus – It is possible to catch a train to Zell am See although the journey takes around 12 hours and there are several changes.  From Zell am See change to bus or Taxi to Maishofen to Palace Kammer, costs approx. EUR 15 per fare, duration approx. 15 min.

By Car – Parking: mostly free hotel car park available, no reservation required.

By Air – There are a number of flights available from the UK to Salzburg Airport then bus to Maishofen.
