Normandy & Jersey Walking Holiday

This is a walking tour in Normandy & Jersey. Normandy is famous for its beautifully steep coasts and endless golden sandy beaches. Inland however there are a number of historic villages and ancient castles to be explored. On this tour you will be able to visit the bay of Mont Saint-Michel the natural and historic border between Normandy and Bretagne, which is protected by UNESCO Heritage. Mont Saint-Michel is also famous for its impressive Benedictine Monastery which is a target of pilgrims all over the world. An additional highlight on this tour is a visit to the Isle of Jersey with its beautiful beaches, cliffs and colourful flowers.

This tour has an eight day, seven night itinerary.

Day 1 - Individual journey to Pontorson. The little village of Pontorson lies on the border between the two provinces Normandy and Bretagne, which is about 9 km from the bay of Mont Saint-Michel.

Day 2 – Walk from Pontorson to Mont Saint-Michel. Walk along the Couesnon River to the bay of Mont Saint-Michel where you will walk through pretty villages and have a chance to visit a Mill. Mont Saint-Michel is a fortified village situated on an island and on the top of a rock escarpment you will find a monastery inhabited by at least a dozen monks. You will then stay overnight on the island to enjoy the special atmosphere and tranquillity.

Day 3 – Walk from Mont Saint-Michel to Dol-de-Bretagne. After crossing the marshes west of Couesnon River you leave Normandy for the Bretagne. You will walk through green undulating landscapes, dotted with little houses and grazing cattle to the pretty villages Roz-sur-Couesnon and Sainte-Broladre. The half timbered houses belong to the best maintained examples of the Bretagne. You will spend the night on the mainland.

Day 4 – Walk from Dol-de-Bretagne to Cancale. The first interesting point of this walk is Mont-Dol with its beautiful old Church. You will then follow an oyster-park for several kilometres. The last 5 km to Cancale offers superb views across the bay. You will then stay overnight in a hotel on the port. It is said that the local oysters are the freshest and the best so why not judge for yourself?

Day 5 – Walk from Cancale with a transfer to Jersey. Take a morning walk to the headland Grouin - It is quite possible that you will encounter seals and dolphins. A transfer brings you to Sain-Malo to catch the ferry to the island Jersey to St. Helier. From there you will be taken to the pretty harbour town of Gorey, where you will spend the next few nights.

Day 6 – Walk the round trip to Port of Rozel. The hike to Rozel offers breathtaking panoramic views of the harbour, bay and sea. The higher you climb the more beautiful the views. There are some steep ascents to tackle but the pretty harbour Rozel with old granite cottages invites for the perfect stop for a lunch break.

Day 7 – Walk the round trip to the bay of Greve de Lecq. Follow the coast in the opposite direction to the bay of Greve de Lecq, one of the prettiest coves of the island which is really inviting to take a swim” Today the tour is less strenuous and there are several options to return to the hotel and enjoy some relaxation time.

Day 8 - Individual departure or extra days.
