Lake Walking in the Salzkammergut, Austria - 4 night 5 day Tour

The most beautiful country of all time an old folk song claims and you can experience this  on our self guided walking tour in the Salzkammergut, Austria.  This tour combines pleasant walking with culture and places of interest. The walking paths are good, there are just some short ascents on smaller serpentine paths.  We can recommend this tour for families.

Day 1: Individual journey to lake Wolfgangsee.

Day 2: .  From Wolfgangsee along the Saddle trail to Bad Ischl.  

Walk from Wolfgang to Lake Schwarzensee along Saddle walk. It’s worth taking a break at the Lore lake cabin for its delicious homemade snacks. Then walk via the Wirer Gorge into the valley and around Bürglstein to the Lake promenade in Strobl.  Then hop onto a coach to the old Imperial summer residence Bad Ischl.

Day 3:Bad Ischl to Bad Goisern.  

Salt has always been an important source of income in the Salzkammergut area. The oldest brine pipeline in the world runs from Hallstatt’s salt mine to the salt works in Bad Ischl. Walk along the promenade into Kaltenbachau, a site of Imperial entertainment such as horse racing and delightful picnics. Continue along the brine pipeline trail to Bad Goisern and the gateway to UNESCO heritage Hallstatt. 

Details: approx. 3 to 5 hours - 11 km (7miles) - ↑50m (164ft) ↓50m (164ft).

Day 4: Walk from Bad Goisern to Wolfgangsee.  

Today starts with a train journey to Bad Ischl and then a walk to the tiny lake Nussensee along the romantic Sissi-Path before following River Ischl back to Lake Wolfgangsee. Continue beside the Lake through the Blinklingmoos nature reserve back to today’s stop-over.  

Details: approx. 5.5 hours - 18 km (11 miles) ↑300 m (984ft) ↓200 m (656ft).

 Day 5: Individual departure or extra days

Clothing and Accessories - Bring good quality walking boots/shoes, waterproof clothing, a Day pack and Water bottle. 

Bringing Your Dog- On this particular walking tour you have the option of bringing your 'four-legged friend'. When booking, simply let us know the breed and size of your dog. There are possible additional costs which are payable locally.

By train to Salzburg, by bus to Wolfgangsee (approx. 1 hour). Or by train to Bad Ischl and by bus to

Wolfgangsee (approx. 30 min). Pick up service from the bus stop by the hotel.

Parking: mostly free hotel car parks available, partly public car park, approx.

EUR 30 per week. No reservation required.

Transfers from/to airport/station Salzburg available upon request.
