Epic Patagonia

Enjoy an epic adventure trekking in Chile through the Patagonia region. Hike through a beautiful lenga forest taking you to the Base de las Torres (Base of the Towers) and the emerald lake sitting below.  Visit  Los Cuernos, and wonder at “The Horns”, the two famous horned peaks, Cerro Hoja and Cerro Máscara.

2020 - 2021 Itinerary

Day 1: Santiago

Yo will be met at Santiago’s international airport and taken to our partner bed and breakfast, located within walking distance from La Moneda, Chile’s Presidential Palace. 

Peak Altitude: 1,870 ft (569m).

Day 2: Santiago to Punta Arenas to Puerto Natales.

Wake up early for a pre-dawn flight to Chilean Patagonia. In Punta Arenas, meet with your local trekking guide who will then accompany you on a bus ride to Puerto Natales. On the way, soak up the beautiful views of the ocean and snow-capped peaks. On arrival, take a hike just outside the city to see recently uncovered, archaeological ruins.  Return to Puerto Natales and in the evening, explore this quaint mountain town.  Overnight in our partner lodge.

Peak Altitude: 1,870 ft (569m)

Day 3: Puerto Natales to Refugio Las Torres.

After breakfast head off using private transport to Torres del Paine National Park.  Drop your full packs at the refugio and begin the trek. Ascend through a rocky terrain cut by pristine glacial rivers. Gain two thousand feet as you climb through a beautiful lenga forest to take you meters from the towers and the emerald lake that sits at their base. Return to the mountain lodge for the evening.

Peak Altitude: 2,870 ft (875m)

Approx Distance: 12 miles (19 km) - 8 hours of trekking (with day pack only)

Day 4: Refugio Las Torres To Refugio Los Cuernos.

Spend a majority this trek on a trail lying between Lake Nordenskjold and Mount Almirante Nieto of the Paine Massif. On arrival at Refugio Los Cuernos, wonder at the outcrops of granite peaks or “The Horns”, the two famous horned peaks, Cerro Hoja and Cerro Máscara.

Peak Altitude: 797 ft (243m)

Approx Distance: 7 miles (11.3 km) - 7-8 hours of trekking 

Day 5: Refugio Los Cuernos to Refugio Paine Grande.

Leave Los Cuernos and hike through Torres’ old-growth forest. Pass by the French Camp and arrive at the Italian Camp at the start to the French Valley. Here, drop your full backpacks and take your daypack for the hike into the French Valley. If you’re feeling up to it, hike an additional 7 miles (5.5 km) round-trip into the French Valley for stunning 360 views of the park.

Peak Altitude: 2,495 ft (760m)

Approx Distance: 9 OR 17 miles (14.5 or 27 km) - 7 to 8 or 12 hours of trekking

Day 6: Refugio Paine Grande to Refugio Grey.

Hike to Grey Glacier, an impressive ice field that covers the west end of the park. Enjoy the beauty of Pehoé Lake and Grey Lake as you approach the glacier. In the afternoon, there is an opportunity to go ice hiking, kayaking or to relax on the porch of Refugio Grey.

Peak Altitude: 820 ft (250m)

Approx Distance: 7 miles (11.3 km) - 4-5 hours trekking

Day 7:Refugio Grey.

On the final day of trekking, make your way along Grey Glacier toward Campamento Paso. Scale ladders and enjoy views of the glacier before returning to the lodge for dinner.

Peak Altitude: 820 ft (250m)

Approx Distance: 6-7 miles (9-11 km) - 6-8 hours trekking

 

Day 8:Refugio Grey to Puerto Natales.

Spend a final half day in the park. A 3 to -4 hour walk toward the lake will take you to the catamaran back to Pehoé and out of the park. Bus transportation will be awaiting to take the scenic ride back to Puerto Natales. Share a farewell dinner with your guide before a restful night in our partner lodge.

Approx Distance: 7 miles (11 km) - 3 to 4 hours trekking

 

Day 9: Puerto Natales toSantiago.

Take a bus to Punta Arenas and fly back to Santiago. Bus and flight times will vary depending on the group; The latest you would arrive back to Santiago is 10:30pm. Spend a final overnight in the city before your international flight the following day.
