
Cross Country Safari – Cross Country Skiing in the Italian Dolomites
Enjoy a self guided cross country skiing tour taking you to the heart of the Italian Dolomites. Ski from the imposing Sexten Dolomite mountains to Toblach's cross country skiing centre.
Ski through the winter countryside, passing Lake Toblach, and follow the former Dolomite railway track into the Hohlenstein Valley at the foot of the 'Drei Zinnen' (Three Peaks). Head through the Prags Valley to reach Lake 'Prags Wildsee', with its breathtaking scenic backdrop of outstanding natural beauty.
Further highlights of this tour includes the mountain pasture of Platzwiese with its glorious panoramic views of the surrounding mountain summits of the Gsies valley. This route has been chosen so that skiers of all abilities can enjoy the experience.

This tour has an eight day, seven night itinerary.
Day 1: Arrival in Toblach/Dobbiaco or Nieder-dorf/Villabassa) Individual arrival. Car parking at the hotel or nearby available.
Day 2: Toblach/Dobbiaco or Nieder-dorf/Villabassa –Sexten/Sesto (around 15-45 km)You will start your crosscountry skiing tour through the open Pustertal Valley toInnichen/San Candido you will get to Sexten/Sesto. The fittest of you can go first from Innichen/San Candido to Sillian in Austria and then to Sexten/Sesto. On both versions you will be surrounded by the majestic mountain peaks of the famous Dolomites.
Day 3: Sexten/Sesto –Fischleintal/Val Fiscalina -Sexten/Sesto: (around 8-20 km)Today you will be going into Fischlein Valley –along the river “Rio di Sesto” beneath Sextner’s sundial to the Talschluss hut where you can enjoy a marvellous view, a cap-puccino or some of the traditional specialties of the region. Alternative tour: Nemes hut -Coltrondo hut –Kreuzbergpass/Passo Monte Croce are in-viting to drink or eat something along the route (transfer/ticket not included).
Day 4: Sexten/Sesto –Pragsertal-Plätzwiese/Valle di Braies-Prato Piazza (around 20 -50 km)From Sexten/Sesto you slide through spruce woods to San Candido/Innichen, the cultural centre of the Hochpustertal. Under the alpine skiing centre of the village, called Haunold/Baranci, the tracks will lead you to the West, following the open „Pustertal” val-ley. In Toblach/Dobbiaco you can visit the Alpine zoo or one of Gustav Mahler’s composing studios. After-wards wide snowfields will take you to Niederdorf/Villabassa. Going further you will leave the Pustertal and get to the Valley of Prags/Braies. Once again you can choose the more challenging version and surround the lake of Prags/Braies before reaching the high plat-eau Plätzwiese/Prato Piazza, where you will meet again with the ones, who have taken the direct way up on to 2,000 metres above the sea level!
Day 5: Plätzwiese/Prato Piazza (one loop is around 7/8 km)Today you can explore the wild nature of Plätzwiese/Prato Piazza and admire the impos-ing Hohe Gaisl/Croda Rossa. For who would like to have a change: take some snow shoes and walk up to Strudelkopf/Monte Specie from where you will have a spectacular view of the Three Peaks.
Day 6: Valley of Gsies/Casies –Toblach/Dobbiaco-Niederdorf/Villabassa (around 8-40 km)Winter landscapes, local farm houses, an open sun-ny valley will be on today’s programme. Typical guesthouses offer local food and some refreshment. Keep your skiers on and go back to Wels-berg/Monguelfo –the inexhaustible ones can go to Niederdorf/Villabassa-Toblach/Dobbiaco.
Day 7: Toblach/Dobbiaco-Niederdorf/Villabassa–Cortina Höhlenstein-tal/Cortina Valle di Landro (around 10 –50 km) From the cross country skiing centre in To-blach/Dobbiaco you ski along the old train route into the Valley of Landro/Höhlensteintal. You can decide whether to have our famous apple strudel at the lake of Toblach/Dobbiaco or to continue until you get to the point where you see the famous “Three Peaks” and further on to the arena of Cortina d’Ampezzo.
Day 8: Departure from Toblach/Dobbiaco-Niederdorf/VillabassaIndividual departure or possibility to extend your stay.Start dates 2017, self-guided tour:

Over the Brenner motorway to Brixen/Bressanone, through the Pustertall/Val Pusteria to Niederdorf/Villabassa or Toblach/Dobbiaco or taking the Felbertauernstraße (in Austria) to Lienz in Osttirol, further on to Toblach/Dobbiaco or Niederdorf/Villabassa.
By Air – There are a number of flights available to Italy and a number of airports the nearest of which are Treviso, Venice, Innsbruck and Verona. A private transfer can be organized on request (price on application) .
