DAY 1: Amboise

Individual arrival in Amboise in the afternoon.  Check-in at the hotel and pick up the bicycles, if you rent them.  Explore the town especially the Clos-Lucé palace, where Leonardo da Vinci spent the last three years of his life.  Many of the works of Leonardo, have been reproduced on a 1: 1 scale and are on display in the beautiful park.

DAY 2: Circular Route from Amboise to Chaumont and Back
Cycle along the right bank of the Loire to Chaumont castle, a Gothic fortress complete with a drawbridge and monumental staircase built around the year 1000. The interiors offer a nice overview of the furnishings of the time and the stables and the English park are well worth a visit.  The International Festival des Jardins is an important annual event where artists and landscape architects from all over the world give life to evocative installations and dream corners using plants, flowers and other Objects.
Return following the opposite bank through pretty villages like Rilly and Mosnes, riding
on rolling hills between the vineyards.  Back in Amboise, visit the Château d'Amboise, which dominates the city from a rocky outcrop. This was the residence of the royal court during the Renaissance period and became a meeting place for artists and writers, including Leonardo Da Vinci whose tomb is located inside the Castle Chapel.

DAY 3: Circular Route from Amboise to Chenonceau and Back

Today's ride will take you from the Loire Valley to the River Cher through the wonderful Amboise Forest to Château de Chenonceau, known as the Queen of the two, or Diana of Poitiers and Caterina de 'Medici, respectively lover and wife of Henry II. The multi-arched structure spans the river Cher and the rich and elegant interiors, make it undoubtedly the most evocative and most visited of the castles of the Loire. Do not miss the magnificent kitchens with the tools of the time and the magnificent boxwood maze.  The second half of this beautiful bicycle tour will take you back, first along the banks of the River Cher and then across gentle hills to Amboise.

DAY 4: Amboise - Tours by bike and return by train

Follow the banks of the Loire all the way to Tours, the capital of Touraine. A lively and dynamic city with an ancient heritage which is rich in art and history.  Around 1960, Tours set about an important policy of restoration of the old quarters giving rise to one of the largest areas best preserved historical monuments of Europe.  Take the opportunity to walk in the historic centre and around the Place Plumereau, an area which attracts university students and tourists thanks to the many bistros and bar terraces set amongst the typical half-timbered houses of the fifteenth century.
Return to Amboise by train.

End of services after breakfast.

By Rail/Bus – There are trains running between London and Blois which requires transfers.  There are buses running from Paris to Blois. Blois, Amboise and Tours are connected by frequent trains

By Car – Amboise can be reached by car via ferry or Eurotunnel and well-maintained motorways.

By Air – There are a limited number of flights available to Tours from Stanstead, or fly to Paris and take a bus or train.
