This tour has an eight day, seven night itinerary.

Day 1. Arrival 
Arrival at Sofia airport and transfer to the hotel.

Day 2.  Goliam Izvor - Glozhene monastery - Ribaritsa village
Early transfer to the town of Yablanitsa where the cycling starts. Cycle through town and then continue to Malak Izvor village, the starting point of a challenging 5 km uphill ride to Glozhene Monastery. Having visited the monastery retrace your steps and continue to the scenic town of Teteven. Here, stop for a walk to the local historic museum and church and a short  bike and hike to a nearby eco trail with its 2 beautiful waterfalls. Continue cycling to Ribaritsa village where you stay for the night.

Day 3.  Ribaritsa village - Troyan monastery - Apriltsi
Climb from Ribaritsa to the highest point for the day - Bogoi pass (1185m). From this pass the road descends to the town of Troyan passing through the village of Shipkovo where you can take a refreshing bath in the mineral water swimming pools. After lunch in Troyan town centre, visit The Pottery and Craft Exhibition "Oreshaka" nearby and the famous Troyan monastery. Spend the night in Apriltsii village.

Day 4.  Apriltsi - Gabrovo - Sokolsky monastery - Etura
Cycle on quiet village roads from Apriltsi, through small villages set in green landscapes and river valleys to Gabrovo.  Have lunch in a local village pub before visiting the Batoshevo monastery a Nunnery.  From here, climb, before a nice downhill ride to reach Gabrovo.  Continue to the "Etura", an open-air ethnographic museum, and the beautiful Sokolski Monastery. Stay overnight in nearby Etura. 
Cycling distance: 55 km (34 miles)

Day 5.  Gabrovo - Tryavna - Bozhentsi
After breakfast, leave Gabrovo for Tryavna. There, spend some time sightseeing and have lunch in the centre of this beautiful National Revival town. Ups and downs through open terrain will lead you to the final stop for today - Bozhentsi architectural reserve. 
Cycling distance: 52 km (32 miles)

Day 6.  Bozhentsi - Dryanovo monastery - Elena
Today starts with a visit to the Dryanovo monastery by car , in the afternoon cycle to Kilifarevo Monastery before continuing to the town of Elena passing by the blue waters of Lovkovtsi dam. 
Cycling distance: 48 km (30 miles)

Day 7.  Elena - Arbanassi - Veliko Turnovo - Plovdiv
From Elena continue cycling to the last point of the trip, Arbanasi.  Set on a high plateau it is known for the rich history and large number of historical monuments, such as 17th and 18th century churches and examples of Bulgarian National Revival architecture. The landscape includes meadows, pastures, farmland, shrubby hills and finally a beautiful plateau over Veliko Tarnovo. After some free time for rest and walks among the old houses of Arbanasi we go for a lunch and sightseeing tour in Veliko Turnovo - the capital of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom. In the afternoon you will be transferred to Plovdiv for overnight.

Day 8. Transfer to Sofia airport and departure.

Essential information:

  • Bikes: Hardtail mountain bike or hybrid bike
  • Roads: We use mainly isolated village asphalt roads with little traffic, road conditions are relatively good with some exceptions (bumpy sections, potholes, rough asphalt), we do not go off road
  • Guide/driver: The guide with the supporting vehicle and the luggage inside checks several times a day if everything is OK with the group, waiting by crossroads, accompanying them for breakfast, lunch and dinner and giving them talks by the most interesting sites en-route
  • Dress code in monasteries and churches - men are not allowed to enter in shorts and women should not expose their legs and shoulders.
