Wachau - Walking the Danube

In Wachua the Danube is even more beautiful than elsewhere. The mild climate and steep slopes make it an ideal place for vineyards and fruit growing. This is a varied walking tour which leads past steep rocks across gentle hills and through fragrant vineyards. There are some steep parts of the walk, but the majority is flat or gently sloping. Day 1 - Arrive at Stein.
Day 2 - The vineyards start at the edge of the town and you'll enjoy a gentle stroll along the Danube, with spectacular views. You'll cross the hills to Durnstein where you will stay the night.
Day 3 - You'll leave Durnstein and cross the river by ferry to Rossatz. You'll enter the largest apricot growing region of Austria with a striking view of the Alps.
Day 4 - Rest day. You'll spend the day in WeiBenkirchen and are free to explore the area.
Day 5 - From WeiBenkirchen you'll travel up Seiber, past Kuhberg to the Buschandl wall. You'll follow the trench downhill to Miesingbachgraben and on to the vineyards in Spitz.
Day 6 - You'll cross back over the river by ferry and follow the Buchtal valley uphill. Shortly before reaching Maria Langegg, you'll join the Austrian trail of St. Jacob's. This will take you to the fortress at Aggsbach.
Day 7 - Visit the monastery in Melk before returning to Stein on a boat, past the highlights of the tour - Spitz, Durnstein and Krems.
