DOLOMITES CROSS COUNTRY SAFARI

Moving through the winter countryside, you will pass Lake Toblach, and continue along the former railway track of the Dolomites train into the Höhlenstein Valley at the foot of the “Drei Zinnen” (Three Peaks). By taking a short sidetrack through the Prags Valley you can reach Lake “Prags Wildsee”, another breathtaking scenic backdrop of outstanding natural beauty found in this area. The mountain pasture of Plätzwiese with its glorious panorama displaying the surrounding mountain summits or the Gsies valley are further highlights along this route. The route has been chosen so that both beginners and experienced skiers can enjoy the planned course. Arrival every Sunday from 08/01/2012 to 26/02/2012 This tour includes 1/2 board and Ski hire. (approx. 25 TO 78 MILES, 07 days / 06 nights; easy to intermediate tour; depending on the route.)

 

7 days 6 nights

Day 1: Arrival at Sexten/Sesto in Alta Pusteria
Arrive at the hotel in Sexten. Parking is available and included.
Day 2: Sexten/Sesto – Fischleintal – Sexten/Sesto: (approx. 6 – 15 km, approx.
2 - 4 hours)
From the hotel, you set off for the Sexten Dolomites. The Zwölferkofel is directly in front of you with the Dreischusterspitze to the right. Moving along the cross country track, you proceed through the Fischleintal to the Talschlusshütte. Once you reach the highest point you can relax with a warming cappuccino before heading downhill through the woods back to Sexten.
Day 3: Sexten/Sesto – Toblach/Dobbiaco (approx. 12 - 18 km, approx. 4 hours)
From Sexten you go on through the forests to Innichen/San Candido, the cultural centre of Pusteria Valley. At the Haunold Mountain, the track carries on westwards through the wide Pusteria Valley. After a few kilometres, Toblach is in sight as well as the cross country ski centre synonymous with the valley.
Day 4: Toblach/Dobbiaco – Höhlensteintal/Landro - Toblach/Dobbiaco (approx. 5-30 km, approx. 4-5 hours)
From the cross country ski centre in Toblach/Dobbiaco, you follow the tracks of the old railway line to the Höhlenstein Valley. You can decide whether you want to stop for coffee and strudel at Lake Toblach or continue onto the view of the “Drei Zinnen”.
Day 5: Toblach/Dobbiaco – Prags/surroundings (approx. 10-20 km, approx. 5 hours)
You can visit the small zoo in Toblach and view the Gustav Mahler house before continuing onto Niederdorf. From here you leave the Pusteria Valley and go into the Prags Valley.
Day 6: Plätzwiese or Gsies-valley (approx. 8 - 40 km, approx. 1 – 6 hours)
Today you can choose - if you would like you can explore the Plätzwiese, where you can ski under the breathtaking Hohe Gaisl, or if you prefer to conclude your cross-country holiday in Gsies, a charming branch-valley of the Alta Pusteria. On the traces of the cross-country ski marathon of Gsies you can follow the route of the athletes comfortably and circle the whole valley or discover only a part of it.
Day 7: Departure
