10.02.2012 - Electric Bikes Championed for a Greener Cheltenham
Cheltenham businesses Compass Holidays and Vision 21 have joined forces to raise awareness of the environmental and health benefits of swapping four wheels for two at an Open Day event on Saturday 3rd March.
A tour operator of walking and cycling holidays in the Cotswolds, Compass is introducing a new range of Freego electric bikes at the event and encouraging visitors to take them for a spin to test them out free of charge. As road tax, congestion charges and petrol costs continue to rise, electric bikes are forecast to be the largest growing electric vehicle segment with an estimated 130 million being sold by 2025.
Compass is championing electric bikes as the mode of transport for the future and offering a 25% discount on the hire of all electric bikes until the end of March. With the popularity of the electric bike soaring, Compass will be offering three model types of Freego electric bike for sale and for hire, as well as the limited edition Regency model which combines the latest technology with the styling of a bike from the 1950’s, complete with wicker basket and emerald green finish.
The Open Day has the thumbs up from Vision 21, a charity organisation working with local companies to promote a sustainable future for Gloucestershire, as both companies work together to promote a greener Cheltenham. The event will also be promoting the importance of road safety with information and advice given from Gloucestershire County Council as part of the Road Safety scheme. Steve Short, Director of Compass commented, “We have seen the number of requests for electric bikes quadruple in the last year and with more and more people are looking to cut transport costs and gain better eco credentials, the Open Day is an opportunity for people to come along and test the new electric bikes.”
Experts will be on hand throughout the Open day to discuss any biking questions. Compass also offers bikes for hire, second hand bikes for sale and a servicing facility for visitors to book their bikes in for a service on the day.
